The Women’s Health & Fitness Expo was started in 2000 and has become the largest event of its kind in New York State. Thousands of women attended the 2011 Expo and we expect even more women to come to Kingston on May 19, 2012.
This year, the 12th Annual Women’s Health & Fitness Expo features:
- Over 100 booths and exhibits
- Over 20 free health screenings
- Seminars and workshops
- Healthy Food Court with cooking demos and samples from area chefs
- Ongoing exercise and fitness demonstrations
- “The Doctor is In” booth featuring private consultations with specialists
- Book signings by noted authors
- Spa treatments
- Complementary disciplines (aromatherapy, stress reduction techniques, etc.)
- And more!
“In past years, women have really changed their lives by coming to the Expo,” says founder Debra Karnasiewicz, M.D.
Not surprising, since the Expo presents everything from traditional medical modalities to alternative health practices, fitness and cooking demonstrations, and much more. The overall focus is prevention and learning, and each woman will take something different away from her experience at the Expo.
“Most of us tend to fragment our health into little compartments – what we eat, how or if we exercise, medical check-ups, meditation, taking vitamins or supplements or medications – but the various disciplines are not at odds with each other,” says Dr. Karnasiewicz. “The approach and focus of our Expo are very unique; we ‘bring it all together’ in one place so women can choose what appeals to them. Becoming more health-conscious is a process and it’s different for everybody. We give women access to the best information and experts in the fields of health, nutrition, and fitness.”
Dr. Karnasiewicz is the founder and director of the Women’s Health and Fitness Foundation and an internist with a thriving medical practice. Her responsibilities, including coordination of dozens of community outreach programs from osteoporosis screenings to breast cancer awareness seminars, helped convince her of the necessity of encouraging women to spend more time and energy on taking care of their own needs.
